Textile collage Purple Polka Dot Portrait

This is an hand sewn textile artwork inspired by folk art.
For this textile collage I have used different fabrics, a mix of new and upcycled. Some have been stained or dyed with coffee and tea.
The centre piece is a little character that was supposed to be a little brooch but I thought she would look even more beautiful if she was turned into a little portrait-like piece.
I really enjoyed building textures and playing with colours around her.
The back of this textile collage is backed with a blue floral fabric. I have added two sleeves at the top and it comes with a dowel so it can be easily displayed on your walls.

As a doll maker and textile artist inspired by folk art, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
