Libellule, a sleeping beauty.

This is a textile artwork inspired by folk art.

It features a beautiful and very gentle character with a human head on the body of some kind of imaginary insect with wings.
I called her Libellule which is the French word for dragonfly because when I was working on her wings, I reworked a second pair that suited her best and were lengthy, like dragonflies wings. Also, I really like the word Libellule so it fits her perfectly.
And she is a sleeping beauty, on many levels as she does remind me of the image in my fairytales book and she is herself a little beauty.

She is made from coffee stained textiles, muslin cloth, embroidery floss and flax fibers.
I really kept her as simple as possible as she is beautiful just like this.

At the back of the head, I have sewn a little loop so she can be displayed on your walls.
Please, keep away from direct sunlight and any source of water.
She is signed.

She measures approximately 14cm.

As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
