A witch and a cat

This is an handmade textile artwork inspired by folk art and by Halloween.

I liked to keep it pretty simple with the black and white colours only and really just playing with her shape. She is slightly curved and her two little legs are popping out from the dress on her side.
Her dress is made from muslin cloth that I have painted with black acrylic paint. I like how it looks and also the texture of the muslin changes and becomes quite rough which holds a really nice shape.
She wears a little witch hat and in her arms she holds her familiar, a wee black cat.

At the back, she is signed.
She also has a little fabric loop sewn on her head so she can be displayed on your walls.
She can also be displayed on her side on a shelf, thanks to the texture of the dress, she holds well.

She measures approximately 20 cm high and 17 cm wide.

As a doll maker and textile artist inspired by folk art, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
