a star and a seed

This is a hand sewn textile artwork inspired by folk art.
It is made from tea dyed fabric. The Witch I have created is a little creature with one black eye and two long black plaits.
She wears a beautiful witch hat (painted).
Her dress is made of painted clack muslin cloth and a few bits of lace. Because it is painted, the cloth glhas patterns darker or lighter at other places.
I have sewn a star on her collar. On her belly, I have sewn a red seed.
One of her arm is a very thin wooden stick while the other is a thin textile arm, covered with a spotty black and white feather.

She is signed, she has a loop at the back of her head so she can be hung on your walls.
She measures approximately 22cm.

She is not a toy.

As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This is how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
