Lullaby
This is a handmade textile artwork inspired by my love for weird little things.
It represents a little bug-like character with a single big blue eye. Her facial features are drawn and her eye is painted blue. Her hair is made of fabric.
While her face is made of calico, her body was sewn in a beautiful and vibrant pink German viscose. I have attached a little skull painted on a helicopter pod on her front. I have also embroidered the words "Tick Tock..." as a reminder of her sting that comes at the end of her body maybe.
She has two thin wired arms and I also decided to give her two very tiny wings, hidden on her back.
When I was working on her, I had the lyrics of the Cure's song coming to my mind so this is why I named her Lullaby.
She measures approximately 16.5cm.
She is signed and I have sewn a little loop at the back of the head so she can be hung on your walls easily.
This is not a toy.
As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This is how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
