The polka dot skirt
This is a handmade textile artwork inspired by folk art dolls.
This cute little one is really looking like a perfect lady in her beautiful dress, isn't she?
I have made her from a mix of new and upcycled materials. Her body is made from calico that I have painted and dyed. Her facial features are painted with the exception of her smile and a few freckles. She has two big ears.
She wears a muted blue top with a lace collar and a pretty red polkadot skirt (with one pocket!) with a few patches.
In her arms, she holds a beautifully big bone because she surely must be a really good girl.
At the back, she is signed.
I have sewn a little loop at the back of the head so she can be nicely displayed on your walls. She cannot stand on her own but can be displayed on a shelf propped against books for example.
Please display away from direct sunlight and from any source of water.
Measurements
She measures approximately 20cm or 7.8inches..
As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
