The Happy Witch and her Happy Familiar

This is a handmade textile artwork inspired by folk art dolls.

This little witch and her cute cat didn't want to miss Halloween this year so they appeared very early under my needles and they are enjoying the warmth of Summer.
To make her, I have used paint to get her hat, dress and skirt black. I always enjoy using paint on my dolls because of the rough effect it gives that works so well with some characters.
Her hair is made of black felting wool. I have stitched a tiny nose, a big smile and added colour to her cheeks.
Her skirt is made of muslin cloth with a few patches.
I have painted her legs and "tights". In her arms, she holds a really cute little black cat and she has a tiny key attached to her skirt.

She is signed.
At the back of the head, she has a loop that will help to display her nicely.
She cannot stand nor sit on her own but she can sit propped against a book, a wall...

Measurements

She is approximately 20cm or 7.8 tall.
This is not a toy.
As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
