the red bow

This is a handmade textile artwork inspired by folk art dolls.

When I started this little one, I was fully intending to make her a little witch with a witch hat and a black cat. I find that often my characters have a mind of their own and I do not have any other choice than listening to what they want... So, no hat for this little witch but more hair and a red bow it is. Maybe she is a witch in training or maybe she is having a day off, who knows?

She is made from a mix of new and upcycled textiles and acrylic paint. I always enjoy using paint on textile for a rough and really folk art effect that pleases my eyes.
Her eye is a black glass eye and her hair is made of black felting wool. She holds a little black cat in her arms. I have painted boots on her feet and added thread as laces.

Measurements
She is approximately 23cm or 9 inches tall and very thin.

She is signed.
At the back of the head, she has a loop that will help to display her nicely.
She cannot stand nor sit on her own but she can sit propped against a book, a wall...
Please display away from direct sunlight or from any water/humidity source.

This is not a toy.
As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
