Wild Soul
This is a handmade mixed media artwork inspired by the strength of nature.
The head of this doll is made with paperclay. I have given it a distressed look. She has black, unruly hair and a single black eye. She has a somewhat wild look about her.
Her body is made from upcycled textiles and I have given it a kind of snail shaped tail. On her chest, I have attached a bit of broken ceramic plate and the heart of her tail is also enclosing a smaller bit.
These are bits that I found in the street and filled my pockets with many bits with the help of my youngest daughter. It reminded us of the "Treasures" we sometimes find as we dig in the garden and I am so glad I gave another chance to these broken and abandoned bits.
The doll has one arm only, a carved wooden stick and a paperclay forearm and hand.
At the back, she is signed and she has a loop so she can be displayed on your walls.
She measures approximately 22cm (8inches).
Please, keep away from direct sunlight and from any source of water. Due to the fact that she is made from paperclay, she will also be a bit more fragile than textile only dolls.
This is not a toy.
As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This is how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
