Yellow Eye, a Forest Spirit
This is a handmade textile artwork inspired by folk art and nature.
This little one is a beautiful member of my ongoing Forest Spirit collection. I like to create little beings that I secretly believe could live in our Forests and Woods, hidden from our eyes. My Forest Spirits are gentle souls and have in common to integrate elements of nature as parts of themselves, like a strange and perfectly imperfect osmosis.
Yellow Eye is made from layers of muslin cloth attached to a simple stick of wood. Her eye is drawn, her nose stitched. Her hair is made of flax and she has painted "flowers" as an ornament.
One of her arms is made of crackled paperclay, the other is not really an arm but is is a snail shell with a wonderful pattern and colours.
I have sewn a thin little piece of tree bark on her dress.
She has a loop at the back of the head so she can be displayed nicely in your home.
Please display away from direct sunlight and keep away from any contact with any source of water/wetness.
Measurements
She measures approximately 15 cm or 6 inches.
As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
