Fish girl

This is a handmade textile artwork inspired by folk art dolls.

This is inspired by a little character I always love to draw and doodle. I thought it would be nice to turn her into a doll for once.

She is handmade from a mix of new and upcycled materials. I stained the fabric I used with coffee for a nice colour. Some elements are made with paint, like her hair, eyes and yellow boots. I have sewn a pretty and colourful outfit on her and added two stars made of cut wood on her skirt.
In her arms she is holding a happy little blue fish.
Both her legs have been sewn in a way that they are dangling under her.

She cannot stand but she can sit propped against a wall or a book on a shelf.
I have sewn a little fabric loop at the back of the head so she can be displayed nicely.

She is signed.
It measures approximately 21cm or approximately 8.2 inches.
She should be displayed away from direct sunlight and from any source of water.

This is not a toy.

As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This is how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
