Flower Moth, a Forest Spirit
This is an handmade textile artwork inspired by folk art and by my love of nature.
This little Spirit has a face made of air drying clay. It has been painted and sealed.
The rest of her body is made of textile. Her hair is made of black felting wool and her eye is a black glass eye.
Around her body, I have wrapped layers of muslin cloth (or cheese cloth). She has two small wings made of fabric, there is a little flower embroidery on each one. A string is wrapped around her body and there is a stick of wood (an arm maybe ?) along her body.
I have added dried twigs of flowers that I have collected in my garden as ornaments (sealed and painted with acrylic) as well as three tiny yellow flowers on top of her head.
She measures approximately 20cm.
She is signed.
I have added a little loop at the back of the head so she can be displayed on your walls.
She is not a toy and should be manipulated gently.
She should be displayed away from direct sunlight and from ant source of wetness.
A word of caution on their hair. If anything gets stuck on it, remove it as softly as possible, be gentle and do not pull the hair firmly.
As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
