My little hen friend

This is an handmade and hand sewn textile art doll.
My work is inspired by folk art dolls.

This doll was sewn from calicot cotton. The doll has a single eye, a black glass eye like the ones used for teddy bears. Her mouth and nose are seen/stitched. Her two cheeks are painted pink.
Her hair is made of flax that I have plaited in two long pigtails.
She is wearing a dress made from upcycled fabrics mostly. The top is mostly blue while the skirt part is red and I have added a few colourful patches here and there.
Her shoes are painted with red acrylic on her dangling legs.
In her arms, she makes a nest for her little friend, a red hen. The hen is made from fabric, paint and embroidery stitches.

The doll measures approximately 23. 5cm.
She cannot stand on her own but will sit nicely against a wall on a bookshelf.
She also has a little loop at the back of the head so she can be hung on your walls.
She is signed.
She should be displayed away from direct sunlight or from any source of wetness.
she is not a toy.

As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
