Pink Flower Girl

This is a small textile artwork inspired by folk art dolls.

It is a little character made from coffee stained calico. Her mouth is stitched, so is her nose. I have painted her eyes and little teeth with acrylic paint.
Her hair is made from a natural colour string.
Her "top" is dyed in blue with a few embroidery stitches. Her skirt is pleated from coffee stained fabric. I have added extra stitches, a few stains and patches for a distressed look.
At her feet, I have embroidered red shoes.
In her arms she holds a pink flower (a stick and a stitched painted fabric flower).
She is a little thing, very light and she measures approximately 16cm.
I have added a loop on her back so she can be displayed like an ornament on your walls. She cannot sit nor stand.

As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to
say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
