Curly Hair

This is an handmade mixed media artwork inspired by folk art dolls.

This art doll is handmade from textiles except for the face which was made from air drying clay. Her eye is a black glass eye, her cheeks are painted in pink tones. Her hair is made from white sheep curls.
Her body is covered in multiple layers of muslin cloth (also known as cheese cloth) that I have stained and dyed in light blue/grey colours with some rusty tones too. I have finally added a few stitches here and there in dark grey and golden yellow colours.
I have taken the decision to let her be just as simple as this. It is sometimes tempting to add details, arms and legs but I strongly felt that this particular little one was beautiful just the way I was seeing her. Her serene and yet determined expression are enough to create a story for her without the need of any embellishments I think.

She measures approximately 19cm.
She has a little loop at the back of the head so she can be hung on your walls.
She should be kept away from direct sunlight and from any source of wetness.
This is not a toy.
She is signed.

As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
