Snail Girl, a Forest Spirit

Handmade textile artworks inspired by folk art and by my love of nature.

This is a little Snail with beautiful pink hair which gives her a very gentle look.
Her hair is made of felting wool and I have added a few dried flowers in it.
Her face is very minimalist. I have stitched her nose and added a black glass eye. Half her face is gently stained with coffee and she has two pale pink cheek.
At the place where she should have ears, I have added two beads and rolled her hair gently around.
Her body is made from calico. It is dyed/stained with coffee for a beautiful warm and earthy colour.
I have added a few stitches and bits of fabric to create a nice texture. She has only one little arm.

At the back, she is signed.
I have also sewn a ring on her neck so she can be displayed on your walls.
You can do so by using a little nail or adding a looped string.

She measures approximately 16cm.

As a doll maker inspired by folk art dolls, I want to say that the fabric fraying, the threads still showing or the way things are attached to each other are all voluntary processes. This is the way I find that my creations are beautiful. This how I feel they are unique and original. It shows their frailties, flaws and their strength altogether.
I am working with upcycled materials mostly.
